The Introduction to CELTA in detail

The Introduction to CELTA is a flexible preparatory program that provides a comprehensive overview of the CELTA qualification. With a modular structure, the course allows you to explore key concepts such as lesson planning, classroom management, and teaching methodologies at your own pace. This approach gives you the flexibility to complete the course according to your schedule, tailoring your learning experience to suit your individual interests and goals, while building a solid foundation for the full CELTA qualification.

There are two modules:

Core modules:

•    Module 1: CC2069 – Introduction to CELTA

This module provides an introduction to the CELTA program, endorsed by Cambridge English, and equips participants with the essential skills and knowledge needed to teach English to speakers of other languages. Comprised of 40 practical units, it is organized into five sections: Learners and teachers, and the teaching and learning context, Language analysis and awareness, Language skills (reading, listening, speaking, and writing), Planning and resources for different teaching contexts, and Developing teaching skills and professionalism. It also includes resources such as a guide to teaching practice, observation tasks, assignments, a glossary, and further reading.

Through assignments and reflective exercises, this module encourages practical application, helping participants build confidence in lesson planning, classroom management, and effective teaching strategies. By the end, participants will have a solid foundation in core language teaching principles, preparing them to create learner-centered lessons and enhance their teaching credentials.

•    Module 2: AMLT8433 – Approaches and Methods in Language Teaching

This module provides an in-depth exploration of various approaches and methods used in language teaching, focusing on their practical application in teaching English to speakers of other languages. Participants will study a range of teaching methodologies, including Communicative Language Teaching, Task-Based Learning, and the Direct Method, and examine how each approach influences lesson planning, classroom interaction, and learner engagement. The module also covers the historical development of language teaching methods, allowing participants to understand the evolution of teaching practices and their theoretical foundations.

Additionally, the module delves into the strengths and challenges of each approach, offering strategies for adapting methods to different learner needs and classroom contexts. Participants will explore how to integrate various approaches to create effective, learner-centered lessons that promote language acquisition and communicative competence. By the end of the module, participants will have a comprehensive understanding of language teaching methods and the tools to apply them effectively in their own teaching practice, enhancing their ability to create dynamic and engaging learning environments.

Results

The Introduction to CELTA is assessed through assignments and reflective exercises, allowing participants to deepen their understanding of language teaching principles and develop key teaching skills. This approach enables you to progress at your own pace, focusing on areas most relevant to your teaching goals.

Upon completion, you will receive the Introduction to CELTA certificate, enhancing your qualifications in the field of English language teaching.

There is no Pass or Fail. Results are reported in Bands 1–4, with Band 4 being the highest. Band 1 represents limited knowledge of the content areas tested; Band 2, basic but systematic knowledge; Band 3 shows a breadth and depth of knowledge and Band 4 extensive knowledge.
